What is mFAX?
mFAX is a mobile based fax service introduced by Mobitel for the purpose of receiving, storing, sending and forwarding Fax messages from anywhere and at anytime
Who can subscribe to this service?
This service is available to all Mobitel Post Paid and SMART Pre Paid customers
How can I subscribe to an mFAX account?
- Type mFAX and send to 7575
- Through the Mobitel website
- By calling our 24 hour Customer Care hotline 071 2 755777
- By visiting any of our outlets
Your new mFAX number and password would be sent to you via SMS.

Can Mobitel corporate users subscribe for mFax service?
Yes.
Corporate customers can request for an mFAX account through the relevant account manager.
How can I receive a fax?
Simply give out your mFAX number to your contacts. An SMS will notify you whenever you receive a new fax.
How can I view / print a fax message received?
You have the option of receiving incoming fax messages as attachments on email, by setting up anemail address of your choice or of forwarding it to an external fixed line fax number.
Can I send faxes using mFAX?

How can I send a fax using mFAX?
- Go to www.mobitel.lk/mfax
- Then click on "My Account"
- Enter your mobile number and password
- Click on "compose"
- Type your message and browse and attach the document you want to send
- Type the recipient’s fax number
- Click send
Step 1:
Go to www.mobitel.lk/mfax, login to your mFAX account and click "compose"

Step 2:
Type your Message, Subject and the Recipients number(s) and attach your documents. You can attach file in text, pdf or tif formats

You also have the option of maintaining a predefined list of contacts or groups of contacts.

How to setup external fax printer number?
Type EF <space><external fax number> and send to 7575

Type EM<space><email address> and send to 7575
Do I have to purchase a fax machine?
No. you are not required to have your own fax machine. If required the fax can be forwarded and printed using any fax machine.
What is the capacity of a mFAX inbox?
Fax capacity is package dependent.

After 7 days, older messages will be automatically deleted.
If the inbox gets filled in less than 7 days, customer has to manually delete fax messages using the IVR.
How to delete messages?
From your Mobitel no: Dial *75, select the message and follow instructions.
From another number: dial 0717007575 and enter your Mobitel number at the prompt followed by your mFAX password.

What are the document formats that I can fax using PC to fax feature?

Can I send a SMS to a mFAX number?
YES. Your SMS will be received as a fax to the mFAX subscriber.
What happens when my mFAX box is full?
You cannot receive faxes. An SMS will notify you when 90% of the mFAX inbox is full.
How will a SMART Pre Paid customer be charged? What if there is no credit?
- If balance were not sufficient at the time of provisioning, you would have to wait (after reloading) for a period of 1 hour before re-trying
- The monthly subscription for Pre Paid subscribers is done on the 1st day of every calendar month. If failed due to insufficient balance, the system will re-try for 7 days. If failed on all 7 days, the mFax service will be disconnected
- The fax forwarding charges are same as for Post Paid. The outbound fax call will be terminated immediately when the balance is insufficient
- The Pre Paid customer should have a minimum balance of Rs 5 + tax for local fax forwarding (to a fax machine) and Rs 30 + tax for international fax forwarding (to a fax machine)
- When a customer is trying to forward or send an mFAX to an external number through web or IVR without meeting the above said balance requirement, a notification is given as follows. "Sorry, you don’t have sufficient credit in your mobile account to forward/ send this mFAX."
Can I send a mFAX to several numbers simultaneously?
Yes. You can send a mFAX to up to 20 recipients through your mFAX web login.
Can I create recipient groups?
Yes. You can create recipients groups through your mFAX web login.
How does one get charged if he/she changed the mFAX package?
Post Paid subscribers
The highest monthly subscription is charged, if the customer has done any package changes during the month.
Pre Paid subscribers
For upward package changes, the difference between the two monthly subscriptions + tax, is charged immediately.
Downward package changes are free of charge.
To what package does a customer subscribe via SMS?
All subscriptions via SMS are for 'Standard' package, by default.
