Here is an exciting message for all SMART Pre Paid users who are dynamic and SMART.

Mobitel SMART Pre Paid services launched SMART Loan, in order to give SMART Pre Paid users the freedom to ask for a loan from Mobitel whenever they run out of credit.

This service enables SMART Pre Paid customers to obtain an advance reload of Rs. 30/- on loan when out of credit which will be recovered once the account has been reloaded/recharged.

SMART Loan can be obtained upon dialing #247# by any Mobitel SMART Pre Paid customer connected for more than 6 months and registered in compliance with the Mobitel customer registration policy.

The loan of Rs.30 granted is valid for a period of 7 days and can be requested only when the account balance is 0 or less. The processing fee of Rs. 2/- + taxes and levies will be applicable for each successful SMART Loan request.

Speaking on the significance of the new product Suren J. Amarasekera, CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, said "It brings out the human need of keeping in touch with friends and giving a helping hand when needed. This ties in with what our Company is about - truly caring about our customers."

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Service Provider and the Official Sponsor of the National Cricket Team, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its fully-fledged 2.5G GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual band. In December 2007, the company launched its 3.5G HSPA network - the first Super 3.5G network in South Asia. Further, Mobitel successfully demonstrated HSPA + MIMO technology with down link speed up to 28.8 mbps for the first time in the South Asian region. Investments committed to date in the 3.5G/2.5G networks and service offering amounts to over US$300 mn. The company plans to increase its combined number of base stations to 3000 by the end of 2010.
