Colombo - 1st January, 2010
Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration (formerly Department of Immigration and Emigration Sri Lanka) recently announced the launch of its newly designed Passport Application forms. The newly designed Passport Applications are now being issued to all applicants and come complete with a sheet of instructions in a language of his/her choice (Sinhala or Tamil). Further the new and simplified structure together with the re-sizing makes it more user-friendly and easier for applicants to fill in.
The redesigning and production of the new forms were sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Service Provider. This follows several previous ventures between SLIE and Mobitel, including the launch of newly designed Embarkation and Disembarkation cards as part of SLIE's efforts in developing a new and advanced border control system in 2008, introduction of an SMS notification service to alert applicants once their passports were ready for collection in 2009 and installation of screens at the Bandaranaike International Airport to display important instructions for travelers during that same year.
All new passport applicants are kindly advised to use the new application forms when applying for passports, which will in tern ensure efficiency of passport issuing.
