SMART Share, a smarter service for Mobitel SMART Pre-Paid users

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the national mobile service provider launched SMART share, yet another young and dynamic brand introduced by the SMART Pre-Paid service. A new customer centric innovation, Mobitel takes m-commerce to the next level, proving to be a highly competitive service in the telecommunication industry. With SMART Share provided over and above Smart Reload with the new concept of peer to peer gifting, it gives customers the freedom to share pre-paid credit with their friends who have SMART pre-paid connections, offering greater value addition to its customers where the service is offered through USSD.

SMART Share opens up so many possibilities - to gift a loved one or merely borrow in case they are low on pre-paid balance, until they can obtain their requirement of top up or reload from a retailer. It is a hassle free way where balance transfers can be done any time of the day from anywhere among friends and family. If any one of your SMART friends runs out of pre-paid balance, you can send a simple command to transfer portion of balance to your friend's phone. This service is a transfer of balance and is different from SMART Reload made through a retailer where the subscriber account is topped up. The SMART Share sender will be charged a nominal Rs 2 plus government taxes/levies for each balance transfer.

As the SMART prepaid connections are automatically enabled for this feature, no special activation is required. Customers can send any amount ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 2000, with both you and your friend receiving SMS's confirming the sending and receiving amounts. Sending pre-paid balance to another SMART connection is simple, with the user only having to type *448*PIN*071 * Amount # and send. PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a 4 digit number assigned to your phone. Just type "PIN" (or pin) and send a SMS to 4480 to receive this number. If you need to change your existing PIN, you can do so by dialing 141 and pressing 4 and the voice prompt will give you the necessary guidance. All pre-paid balance transferred will have a maximum validity period of 30 days.

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Service Provider, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its full-fledged GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual bands. Investments committed to date in its 3G and GSM service offering totals over US$ 200mn and is set to increase its present 600 + base stations to 1500 base stations by the end of the year.
